![]() If it doesn't move under spring power, it should at least move when you release it and push it by hand. Of course, it should also move left when you type with the keys and space bar. To move it left, there should be a small lever or button near the right end (and often of the left end also) that, when pushed, releases the carriage to move to the left by a fairly strong spring power. You should be able to just push the carriage to the right, either with that long lever or just by pushing on the end. ![]() You say this is your first big typewriter-does that mean that you have smaller ones? If so, the moving parts are very similar. Well, what is supposed to move is the whole carriage, which includes the cylinder part that the holds the paper and turns it through.
